Microsoft EMS: Secure your data, boost productivity, and more

Microsoft EMS

Cisco Systems released a shocking report last year that claimed 65% of organizations use at least six cybersecurity products and many uses upwards of 50. Overcomplicating security can be a real issue, even more so than overpaying for it.

Fortunately, Microsoft has a solution to help organizations with limited IT resources kill two birds with one stone. Enterprise Mobility + Security is a simple and affordable package with the best security software on the market.

With this product, SimplyClouds can give you a complete enterprise mobility solution that alwaysprotects your business information.

What is EMS?

Microsoft’s Enterprise Mobility + Security (EMS) is a combination of four products that allows your IT team to manage and secure all your company's mobile devices and cloud accounts.

EMS offers maximum IT security and control for organizations that rely on a broad variety of cloud services and computing devices. This bundle includes four components:

  • Azure Active Directory
  • Microsoft Intune
  • Azure Rights Management
  • Microsoft Advanced Threat Analytics

Identity and access management

Azure Active Directory is especially useful for creating single-sign-on accounts for your employees. Each user gets one set of login credentials that gives them access to every app and service they need to work.

Each single-sign-on profile includes a personalized, web-based dashboard where users can launch cloud or locally-installed software without any additional login requirements.

Mobile device security

Microsoft Intune allows you to securely link any number employee devices to their Azure Active Directory profile. Your staff simply needs to register their desktop, laptop, smartphone, and other devices to securely access their single-sign-on profile. In addition to the added convenience for employees, this component of Microsoft EMS gives your IT team total control over every device that interacts with company data and networks.

Intune also offers you real-time control over how critical corporate data is accessed with app protection policies and secure file sharing for users. For example, you can prohibit users from opening a file based on their location, or from copying data into other apps.

Document permissions/security

The third Microsoft EMS component is Azure Rights Management, which can be summed up in one phrase: Document-level security. This service uses encryption, identity, and authorization policies to protect your files and emails regardless of what device an employee uses to access files, regardless of whether it is in the cloud or offline.

As added benefits of this information protection solution, you can also classify your data and add labels to rank it based on sensitivity. You can even have persistent protection that follows your data when shared with others to define who can access data and what they can do with it.

Even if an employee saved a document to a USB drive, that employee would need to verify his or her identity to access it offline. This would make it impossible for employees that quit or were fired to take files with them.

Predictive security/analytics

The fourth and final EMS component is real-time security monitoring called Microsoft Advanced Threat Analytics, which logs thousands of user actions to identify patterns. When something out of the norm is detected, EMS notifies your IT staff.

Almost everything is logged and processed to detect threats such as malicious attacks, anomalous behavior and suspicious activities. Then Microsoft EMS makes actionable recommendations to protect your data based on analysis, interpretation, and predictive analytics.

As an all-in-one package, it starts at less than $9.00 per user per month. And as a complement to our cloud services, EMS is everything you need to keep your users and documents safe: top-tier software from Microsoft and unbeatable support and management from SimplyClouds.
